M42 to Nikon F-Mount Lens Adapter

Most M42-to-Nikon-F adapters space the lens too far from the sensor, so infinity focus is lost. This ultra-minimal adapter keeps the M42 lens base in direct contact with the camera's F-mount, using as little material as possible, so infinity focus is preserved. The included “M42x1.0mm to F-Mount.stl” is the correct file for standard M42x1.0mm lens mounts — use that one. A bonus “T-mount (M42x0.75mm) to F-mount.stl” is also included for M42x0.75mm T-mount lenses, though it doesn't preserve the correct image plane and will likely leave the lens unable to focus at close range.

What you'll need

  • 3D printer
  • M42-thread lens
  • Nikon F-mount camera body
Suggested material: PLA. The original design was printed in PLA with 0.1mm layers. The adapter threads should be a snug fit on the lens; warm it slightly or go slowly if it doesn't thread on easily.
